"In the Desert Night, A Single Flower Still Blooms"
This mosaic of the the southern sky milky way is topped by the fantastically bright Carina Nebula, which in my mind looks like a blooming flower in the night. The "southern Pleiades", lambda nebula, and the cluster of stars called the "jewel box" feature prominently. The foreground is another shot of the pinnacles at Nambung National Park, which I have darkened so as not to detract too much from the night sky image. The image is a stitch of 5 exposures - it looks much better zoomed in...
The image is mosaic of five exposures taken immediately one after the other. I used a 50mm prime zoom f1.8 lens (I highly recommend that every photographer has one of these - they are fast and sharp). The dark sky used a ISO6400 @ 25sec exposure, whilst the foreground was ISO1600 @ 25sec. The foreground was lluminated with my torch. A sky tracking mount was used to ensure the stars didn't blur during the exposure.
